How does the mortgage interest deduction work?

In the Netherlands, you can deduct mortgage interest on your primary residence from your taxable income in Box 1. However, the eigenwoningforfait (imputed rental value based on your WOZ value) is added back. The net deduction (interest minus eigenwoningforfait) is taxed at a capped rate that is lower than the top tax bracket.
